Psalms 30:12, “To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever” (NKJV).
The Lord has been so gracious to us. We have more to be thankful for than we realize. There are some things that we take for granted until these things are adversely affected in our lives. I am a tenaciously, self-motivated, and driven person. You can verify this with my wife (LOL). I can get focused on something and lose all track of time. My attention will be solely on a major task at hand until it is completed with excellence. Are you like this? Or, am I all by myself?
If you are even a little like me, let’s have a transparency moment. In those times of a strongly affixed attention we tend to take a LOT of things for granted. These things are the simple, yet profound things of life. What am I talking about? Things like mobility, eye-sight, the ability to breathe freely, clothes, an automobile to get us around, a roof over our head, food, friends, and people who love us.
For over a week now, I have fought infirmity in my body; everything from a cold to a flare up of arthritis and a few things in between. Yet, in all these things, I sensed the presence of the Lord moving me to survey everything around me and be thankful. I even gave thanks for the pain in my body. It was in the moment of pain that I “remembered” what it was like when my entire body was crippled for over a year. I said audibly, “Thank you for allowing me to ‘remember’ this pain.” Now, I’m grateful for the healing and the pain-free ability.
What are the simple, yet profoundly important things in your life that you’ve neglected to be thankful for? Don’t wait until they are missing or impaired to recognize them. Give thanks to the Lord – FOREVER!
